Recently, I’ve been on the hunt for some cruelty free, clean, and ethical brands. More specifically, I’ve been searching for brands in hygiene and beauty. Below is a list of a few brands I’ve either tried out or am interested in trying out in order to bring more sustainable goods into my home.
These brands range in nature and chemical usage. It’s important to keep an open mind. I will do my best to depict these brands and products in a clear and honest light. Cleancult
Cleancult offers safe and vegan cleaning products such as laundry detergent, dish soap, hand soap, and other household cleaning products. When you go to their website, you must insert your cleaning preferences/number of members in household and cleancult builds a starter kit for you and/or your family.
From there, you can decide whether or not you want to continue using the same products, use different ones, buy more or less of an item, etc. You pay for refills every week or so depending on your needs and the bottles get refilled for you. Did you read that?!? REUSABLE BOTTLES!
I have yet to use cleancult (mostly because I’ll be moving back in with my parents soon and then to Chicago a month after that). However, it is on my list of brands to try as soon as August rolls around!
Who gives a crap
Looking for recycled toilet paper for a fair price? Who Gives a Crap sells bamboo and recycled toilet paper for people looking to bring more sustainability to their hygiene. All of the packaging that comes in shipment is biodegradable (which I find super impressive. Most ethical products are ethical if you ignore the non-biodegradable packaging. But that’s not the case for Who Gives a Crap!)
Their best deal is probably their 48 rolls for $48 deal. That’s $1 per roll! The rolls have 400 sheets per roll making the cost only $0.25 per 100 sheets! And (yes this gets better) it is 3-ply toilet paper, meaning that it is ultra soft!

Brandless
Brandless has a little bit of everything. They have food, home essentials, cosmetics, vitamins, pet supplies, you name it and they have it. And it’s all vegan, ethical, and sustainable! A friend of mine recently introduced me to them. And it is amazing.
Though their prices run a bit higher, their products are quality and safe for the environment. As I will be moving, I’ve considered buying a few things from them. However, they are a bit pricier than I would like.
I think it’s wonderful that they have such a variety of ethical products. It’s like an online Target or Walmart for ethical supplies! Definitely check it out! (This description didn’t do Brandless any justice. They have so much to offer!)
Milani
I WISH that I had discovered Milani sooner. It is a beautiful makeup brand with amazing products for a fairly cheap price! Now, not ALL of their products are cruelty free. On their website, they disclose that some products still use beeswax and other natural compounds that aren’t on the list of “clean chemicals” in makeup.
However, they have a special section in their site for clean and cruelty free makeup. I have been visiting their site often debating whether or not I want to buy more goods. The makeup is smooth and flawless. I love the look and feel of it on my skin.

W3ll People
This is yet another ethical makeup brand. I found it on Target.com, if I’m being honest. Target lists why products are “clean” by using little bubbles saying what the product is or does not include. For example:
I have yet to use a product from W3ll people, however the prices are fair and much more of their product is “clean” than compared to Milani. None of their products include animal compounds and are all vegan and healthy to use. They are plant based makeups. W3ll People’s products are certainly high on my try-out list.
Hello (oral care)
As some of you know, I work at Target. Hello oral care products were introduced to the store a few months ago (and maybe a while before that, but I didn’t see them on the floor until late December or early January of this year).
Hello products include charcoal toothpaste, wooden toothbrushes, mouthwash, you name it. A lot of their product is charcoal activated. Now, personally, I don’t know much about charcoal activation or it’s benefits to us. I know it’s a new fad and maybe I should get into it…I don’t know.
My roommate bought the charcoal activated toothpaste and I’ve heard some good reviews from her. She’s seen a difference in the brightness of her teeth, so I can assume that Hello is not only a good ethical brand but also provides good results from their product.
