About Me 🌺

Who I am

My name is Amelia J Wilson and I am a writer, blogger, and author. But it wasn’t always that way!

Not too long ago, I was struggling to balance a 9-5 retail job with my passion projects. I found myself discouraged because it seemed as if I had to continuously put off my dreams.

Then things changed!

Now, I make it my mission to help you curate a life you love by teaching you about journaling, productivity, spirituality, and more!

Here’s the Timeline:

2018

I graduated high school and moved out of my parents house. I took a gap year to raise money for college and my dreams came to a stand still.

January 2019

I bought a laptop and created my blog. At the time, it was known as “Blog to Being” and it was hosted on Blogger.

April 2019

I self-published a poetry book called The Lights are on but Nobody’s Home. It’s a collection of poetry depicting a metaphorical house that degrades and rebuilds over time in conjunction with a failing relationship.

It was the first step I took into the world on writing and boosted my confidence tremendously.

May 2019

Around the same time my book came out, I decided to rebrand. “Blog to Being” became “Amelia J Wilson.” My goal was to create an author platform melding my interests and building a better brand.

September 2019

After a pretty stressful summer of blogging, working at Target (my job at the time), waking up at six am every morning, and hunting for a new apartment, I finally moved to Whiting, Indiana in preparation of attending school in the fall.

In September, I began my new job at a Target in Hyde Park, Chicago, and began attending Columbia College Chicago for a BA in Creative Writing.

October 2019

I wanted to continue progressing in my brand and life so I created a podcast and uploaded it to itunes.

While I had considered it a good idea at the time, ultimately that podcast failed and has since been deleted.

This is also the month when I crashed my car and it was considered totaled by issurance.

December 2019

By December, my mental health tanked. There were several reasons for this.

First, my job was taxing and it was about 45 minutes from my house.

Second, school was stressful and I found it hard to balance work + schoolwork. I was often out of the house from 7am to 11pm every day doing one of the two.

Additionally, I was living by myself. My boyfriend and I entered a challenging point in our relationship and I was 3 hours away from all of my friends and family.

Oh yeah…and I only had $200 in my account at any given time and was struggling to pay rent/buy food.

January 2020

With a month off of school for winter break and low hours at work, I found that I had more time to invest in my blog.

I began uploading one post a week and created a content calendar for the next three months.

This was also the month of adjustment for me and my boyfriend, Matt, as he moved to the apartment and we began living together.

March 2020

The world entered a critical stage with the pandemic and my college classes were moved online.

In the first week of March, I transferred to a Target only 20 minutes from my house.

I found I had even more free time than before and quickly poured myself into my passions.

May 2020

In May, I finished up my second semester of college knowing I wouldn’t be able to attend in the fall due to financial issues.

I also moved my blog over to WordPress in this month and began self-hosting.

June 2020

I took full advantage of the resources given to me and launched myself into a digital marketing internship, getting certified in SEO and branding, and gaining as much blogging knowledge as possible.

I quit my job at Target (which may have been a bit premature at the time) and started looking for freelance work.

Additionally, I began a YouTube channel where I began to talk about writing, journaling, and productivity.

July 2020

I got my first freelance writing job where I created all of the copywritten work for a small business site. The payment from this job really helped me when I was in a deep financial rut.

I also began really pushing forward on a book I was working on, aiming to publish it by October.

August & September 2020

I joined two different companies and began creating content for them as a freelancer. I finally had a steady income again and I was fairing much better than I had been before at Target.

October 2020

I self-published my first fiction novel, Witch in the Water, in October. It was a great accomplishment for me and helped me to truly feel like an author.
