Alright, it’s the end of the month and that means a monthly round up of books I’ve been reading. Sadly, it’s a short list (once again). I wish I had ample time to sit down and power through a good book. And truthfully, I have that time. I just spend it binging The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina and scrolling through Instagram. Or sleeping, working, eating, or laying around wishing I’d be productive…
Anyway…
Let’s go ahead and dive into these books. The first one is a bit…different and I’ll explain why.
Title: The Lights are on but Nobody’s Home

So…I just published a book back on April 11th. Crazy right? I am now, officially, an author. It doesn’t feel real. Not at all. But I worked really hard and I’m super proud of the outcome.
Why is my own book on my list this month?
Mostly because I read through it a billion times before publication. Also, it’s because the final two weeks before publication (the first two weeks of April) all of my free time was dedicated to it. So ya know, no extra time for reading anything else…
This is a poetry book depicting the journey I took from losing a friendship to finding a love within myself in return. It’s a book of heartache and loss, love and growth.
Title: Pillow Thoughts
Author: Courtney Peppernell
Of course, writing a poetry book means that one is most likely to follow in the image of some of his/her favorites. I revisited TONS of poetry books that I’ve read in the past. Milk and Honey, The Sun and Her Flowers, Atticus, poetry by Neil Hilborn, by E.H, Rumi, etc. The list could go on.
However, I only touched on some of the work by these artists. I reread Pillow Thoughts.
There are a bunch of favorites in her book that really touch something deep inside me. Particularly ones that involve romance and nostalgia. I will be posting some of my favorites on my Instagram stories soon with some thoughts I have on the poems.
Title: Stardust
Author: Neil Gaiman
By now, a lot of you know Niel Gaiman is like my favorite author of all time. His work is creepy, meaningful, full of vivid fantasy, haunting, and pushes you to question the world you live in. I love it.
So I started one of his books called, Stardust, gifted to me on Christmas from my boyfriend. The story is about a young man named Tristan Thorn who lives in a Victorian era town called Wall. The story truly begins when Tristan promises to find and return a fallen star to his beloved in order to win her hand. Tristan has to go beyond the wall (in which there town was named after) and retrieve the star, fighting his way through a world of fantasy in orde to get there.
So far, I’m enjoying it. I only started a few days ago so I’m not too far in. However, and as usual, I am mind-blown by Gaiman’s work.
I know it wasn’t a lot this time around and I’m hoping to get better at reading more. I want to give good reviews/ideas for things to read
