Things I struggle with as a blogger and how I overcome them
Making Time
My biggest struggle as a blogger is making time for my blog. And that’s a big deal. A blog is more than just a place to plop down and spew your ideas and opinions all over the place. It’s a business unto itself. It’s important to keep up on blog posts, responses, and just the general appearance of the blog.
I have a whole life outside of blogging (crazy right?). And sometimes things in the physical world, as opposed to the digital one, get too hectic. I don’t have a posting schedule, though I hear that’s highly recommended amongst popular bloggers. Rather, I tend to post whenever I have inspiration or free time. This is partly due to my unexpected work schedule, as I work retail and I never know what my hours will be.
The problem arises because there are times when inspiration is dry and time is limited. Therefore, I struggle to create and push out blog posts.

How do I overcome this?
With time being such a scarce commodity for me, I have to get creative. Right now, for example, I am writing this blog post as I get a new tire (since I hit a pothole and got a flat). I search for moments when there is a pause in my day. At work, there are instances when there isn’t much to do. At these times, I write out plans for my blog, post ideas, and schedule times to write/post.
A lot of my free time is dedicated to blogging. And that’s a good thing! However, I can’t use ALL of my free time for blogging. How would I hang out with friends? Family? Watch shows and read books for myself? So, creativity is what helps me make my blog thrive.
Writer’s Block
This is a big destructor for bloggers and artists alike. A dry well. Lack of inspiration. Writer’s block. It’s almost ominous. This plagues me in waves. Recently, in particular, has been rather hard on me. I haven’t been able to sit down and create. It just hasn’t come to me. And when it does, I’m busy doing something in which I can’t just walk away from.
I’ve been pretty silent these last few weeks, or so I’ve felt. I feel like my blog posts have been lacking, and I blame writer’s block for that!
How do I overcome it?
Truth is, half the time I just ride it out. I know inspiration and motivation are erratic. So, I understand this nature and whenever I feel lack of enthusiasm for my work, I take a step back and wait. This can be problematic as sometimes the dry spell can last for weeks. However, I understand myself and my abilities, and I allow myself rest. I know inspiration isn’t dead. It will come back to me.
The other half of the time, I push through it. I write something simple and factual. Or I put my efforts into something small. It’s still an achievement. No matter what I produce, so long as I produce, it is an accomplishment. Sometimes all I can do is push myself during a lack of motivation.

Promoting
This is also a really hard part of blogging. In order to get more viewers/subscribers, you have to promote you work. Right now, Instagram remains my top promoting social app. (You can follow me here on Instagram. I post new content daily). Twitter and Pinterest come second. While Facebook and YouTube are last as I usually repost content from Instagram there.
I’m trying to build a following. It’s hard. It is possible to pay extra money to get a bigger outreach, but I’ve found it doesn’t do too much in the ways of building honest followers.
Building a following takes time, good content, and patience. The struggle for me exists in the fact that I often don’t have the time, motivation, or money (sometimes) to put the effort necessary into promoting my content.
How do I overcome that?
Well, time and motivation are overcome as I explained above. As for purchasing ads and promotions, I have only done it once and it’s not something I want to do often or continuously. I simply don’t think it’s worth it. However, if used correctly it can be beneficial.
I try to put the extra effort into creating good content, posting it on multiple platforms, taking time aside to schedule and engage with my followers, and overall build an honest and true following.
I am an introvert at heart which makes promoting my book and blog dreadful. I hate pushing things onto others let alone speaking to total strangers! However, I’ve found that I can approach the subject as a friend to the people I’m reaching out to, and it brings me confidence.

I relate to a lot of this! I think I’m going to write a post about how I’ve struggled with building a community on social media and on my blog and some things I’ve learned to help. So look out for that! It might be useful for you ❤️
