Chicago places to visit: food

The French market

If you’re looking for a variety of cultural foods, then this is the place for you. I walked into the French market expecting to see a few French eateries and such. Though those certainly exist at the market, there are also a ton of different food options for Japanese, Chinese, Hispanic, Taiwanese, Polish, Italian, etc.  I was blown away at how cute and cultural this market is.
My favorite thing would be all of the decorations and fairy lights they have there. It’s a cute market and the atmosphere is cozy and welcoming. One of my friends bought some food from a Chinese stand and we all shared the savory and richly flavored item. It was really good and also the first time I’ve ever tried tofu.
This is a big recommend on my list!

Garret’s popcorn

Alright, so I’ve heard a ton of people telling me to try Garret’s popcorn. They’ve also told me to try Stans Donuts and Harold’s Chicken but hey, I can only do so much.
First, let me tell you that I only went because my friends went. I don’t like popcorn very much. Heck, a few years ago, going into a movie theatre and smelling the aroma in the air made me gag. Despite not liking popcorn, let me be one to say that Garret’s is the best thing I’ve ever tasted.
We got the Garrett classic which is cheesy popcorn mixed with caramel popcorn and it was AMAZING! I’m definitely going back.

Kung fu tea

So, I’m not going to lie, this isn’t my favorite restaurant in Chicago (though it’d be hard to pick a favorite anyway), but I’ve visited Kung Fu Tea about four times since moving a month ago. That’s almost once a week!
Kung Fu Tea is known for its Boba and milk tea. As ironic as it is, I go to Kung Fu Tea and don’t get either of these. I personally love their Strawberry Lemon Green Tea. Boba is okay…but I prefer without. The milk tea and winter melon tea are also very good. They’re just not my favorite.
Anyway, I definitely recommend this place if you’re going to Chinatown. They’re open pretty late which is really convenient for me. However, they only accept cash, Venmo, or their app. (I have the app and it’s super easy to use and rewarding if you go often enough!).

Triple Crown (in Chinatown)

I went to Triple Crown with Matt when I took him to Chinatown for the first time. At first, I was hesitant, as I’ve never been there before and from the outside, it wasn’t anything super special. We walked in and up the stairs to find a beautifully decorated and well taken care of dining room. It was very fancy.
I ordered Chow Mein and Matt order dim sum. The dinner was delicious, better than anyway Chinese food I’ve tasted (of course, I’ve only ever been to a few small restaurants in Indiana so…). It was fair priced with huge portions which is a big plus in my book. My favorite part was the little desert piggy’s that Matt ordered. They were amazing!

Yolk

I haven’t been to Yolk in over a year. However, I remember loving it when I went. It’s a fantastic breakfast spot with large portions, delicious food, and a bright atmosphere. The only downside would be how busy it is. Though it makes sense! I would expect something that good to be busy!
Despite the hectic breakfast rush, my friends and I were seated and served fairly quick. The food was enjoyable and bit pricier than what I expected. However, I thoroughly enjoyed my experience and cannot wait to go back!
